Ferrofluids Go Next Level

A ferrofluid is a magnetized liquid that creates all manner of bizarre patterns that look like the surface of a distant planet’s moon. Because of that, they’ve been featured in a ton of videos and artworks lately, but so far these have mainly been black and white, with maybe some silver thrown in to add a bit of pizzaz.

Ellen Von Unwerth is a German photographer born in Frankfurt in 1954. After a model career, she takes the camera and develops a recognizable style inspired by Helmut Newton’s work. Defending the idea of a free woman, able to use her assets, she prefers the close shots and the color contrasts but never ignores staging and erotism.

It started out as nothing, I was experimenting with some ways of editing when all the sudden it turned into this huge portrait project. There isn’t really any theme or meaning to it, most of the people just came by and I just took a few snaps. Before I knew it, more than 100 people had dropped by within three weeks! – Kenneth Nguyen.
